2005 Christmas Wreath Making What doll maker doesn't have an extra head lying around somewhere? Maybe it got cracked, or warped in the kiln, or the painting wasn't exactly right. Some of the MDMG group got together with our less-than-perfect heads, a wreath, some branches, flowers, etc, wire, ribbon and imagination. The photos below show the results and a few tips on making your own doll wreath!

Jane Covington painted an A. Marque
head decades ago - she says that she
wiped off the eyelashes and painted
attaining "perfection". Then, bringing
it home from its last firing she
dropped it and broke it into 2 pieces.
She painted another one, but couldn't
part with this one. Just the place for
it!!

Ila Hoetger's doll head was placed on a
grapevine wreath. The doll head is
wired to the wreath; the wire is
extended to form a "shoulder" under
the neck. The arms are formed by
making a tube of the velvet, running
it through a "fur" muff, and glueing
each end to a shoulder. A wide collar
is cut, lined, turned, and decorated.

Ila chose to attach an off-center bow
with long tails. After the arms and
collar are attached, wig the doll head
and make a bonnet. Most of these
wreaths are made to be used as
Christmas decorations, but wreaths
may be made for any occasion or
holiday. Most of these use fir
branches, holly, or other seasonal
additions.

This wreath, made by a visitor to the
group,features a woven wood wreath
painted gold. The doll is dressed in
burgundy velvet with pink ribbon
roses. The bow is made from tapestry
ribbon and the decorations include fir
branches, dark berries, silver glittered
leaves and pink ostrich feathers.
